Tuesday Storytime at the Library

Join us Tuesdays each month at 10:00 for stories, songs, and snacks!  We meet in the library meeting room!

Friday Storytime at the Library

Join us Fridays each month at 10:00 for stories, songs, snacks, and crafts! We meet in the Kid's Play Room!

• April 5, 12, 19
• No Friday Storytime in May.  We will resume in June.

Library Lego Day

The last Friday of the month is our Library Lego Day!  This is a free-play,  drop-in program where we put out our Legos and let kids build whatever they want.  This program is from 9:00-11:30.

These kits come with suggested books on our monthly theme and activities that support early literacy.  A pdf of our Family Storytime insert for the current month can be found here and a link to the Brain Break video of the month is here.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge

Reading 1,000 books with your child before they start school is the focus of this fun program. Any child from birth until they enter kindergarten can join in! Because public formal education does not typically start until age five or six, parents and caregivers play a critical role as their child’s first teacher during those early years of birth through five. The “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge is a simple endeavor. Just set aside dedicated time each day to read a book, any book (and yes, you can reread those favorite stories), to your newborn, infant, or toddler, toward the goal of reading 1,000 books together before kindergarten.

Research demonstrates that young children who are read to on a regular basis have an advantage when learning to read for themselves. Reading together builds closeness and early literacy skills, which are the foundations for school success.
Reading 1,000 books isn’t as hard as it might sound. If you read only one bedtime story every night for three years, you will have read 1,095 books. If you read just three books every day, you will have read 1,095 books in just one year!

Here's how to participate:

Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindgarget Challenge at bakerlib.beanstack.org.  Keep track of the books you read or just enter how many you have read (including those times when your child demands the same book as soon as you finish!). 

Or come to the library to get a paper tracker and turn it in for the next one when you finish the first. 

Either way, every 100 books you and your child read together earns a free book!  At the end of the challenge, you will earn a gift certificate to our own Betty's Books!
